Accident scenario |
The cause for the radiation accident
was the erroneous exchange of a 60-Co gamma Source (9.6x1013 Bq) in a Gammatron S 180. The source was transferred from the radiation
head into the transport container. When the container was being made ready
for transport, the source with the source carrier was inadvertently taken
out of the container and placed unprotected on the door. The exposure of
two male persons (38-, 55-yr old) lasted about 5 min, while they worked
mainly in a kneeling and/or bending position at a distance of 10-175 cm
from the source. |
Chromosomal dosimetry |
Blood samples were taken 103 215 days
after exposure, for 38-year-old and 55-year-old persons, respectively |
