Residents Near the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site (Kazakhstan)


Chromosome aberration and mutation analysis
Date of blood sampling: May 16-19, 2000.
Whole blood was immediately mixed with cold stimulation medium and brought by plane to the RBC-Kyoto University, where lymphocyte cultures were established on May 26, 2000.
Blood was kept in the cool during travelling including transit stay in Moscow.

Semipalatinsk nuclear test site: Dates of nuclear test and flow of the associated cloud and presumed dose (Gy).

        Distribution of persons with indicated frequencies of dic+ring aberrations. Control Japanese populations were not matched for age, sex and smoking habit. Among three outlyers in the exposed populations, two (0.616 dic+ring/100 cells and 1.212 dic+ring/100 cells) are residents in Kurchatov, another (0.816 dic+ring/100 cells) is a member of Sarzhal.
